Stroller Recalls
Almost always I remind people to check about stroller recalls. You can always do that at The U.S. Product Comsumer Safety Commission site. This site gives information about all kinds of recalls. From pogo sticks to electronics.
I did a quick search on baby strollers and it brought back over 2,000 results. Don’t freak out. Only a tinsy tiny percentage applies to 2009-2010. All have been repaired. But you need to know and research this database particularly if you buy a used stroller to save money, as some are very expensive.
Additionally, some recent reports in the news are not so recent. Take for example a report published on Oct. 20, 2010 in webmd.com about the strangulation deaths of four babies has led Graco to recall 2 million Quattro and MetroLite brand strollers. Folks, this occurred between 2003 and 2005.
In 2005, Graco was levied a record civil penalty for failing to report problems to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). They’ve learned their lesson. In January, Graco recalled 1.5 million strollers after five children lost fingertips in the canopy hinge. The recalled strollers were sold between November 2000 and December 2007.
Babies, especially infants under age 12 months, can slip through the opening between the stroller tray and the seat bottom. In these strollers, the opening is big enough for the baby’s torso to slip through, but not big enough for the baby’s head. Infants thus caught by the neck can strangle.
Don’t mean to scare you, but parents should be on their guard when it comes to their children’s safety.
Another company, Valco Baby is recalling their jogging strollers. Valco is encouraging consumers to remove the grab bar. The models involved are:
RUN6140, RUN6141, RUN6142, RUN6143, RUN6144, RUN6145, RUN6146, RUN6147, RUN7710, RUN7711, TRI8800, TRI8801, TRI8802, TRI8803, TRI8890, TRI9103, TRI9104, TRI9105, TRI9106, TRI1033, TRI1034.
TRI1035
Tike Tech – a Toronto, Canada based company – is also recalling Tike Tech Single City X3 and X3 Sport strollers with following ID codes:
TT-18-01, TT-18-02, TT-18-03, TT-18-04, TT-18-05, TT-18-06, TT-18-07
Again, stroller recalls are serious business and should be viewed at CPSC.gov. This site should become your best friend.
